Look around at your work space after that long week. Could it do with a quick spruce, a bit of a scrub or a full deep clean?!
There is no time like the present! Friday afternoon when you are winding down ready to start the weekend, why not tidy around your workspace even as little as 10 minutes will make a huge difference. It will also make your job that little bit easier when Monday Morning comes around.
Whilst it might be appealing now to down tools and leave them lying around, when Monday morning comes and you walk into work, it will only start your week off in the wrong way.
Not only is it good practice to tidy your workstation after you have finished, it is also important for an employee to;
- Maintain all escape routes, fire and emergency exits – Have you left your ladders or maybe some boxes in the way of an emergency exit?
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment – If you were to be told you had a workstation inspection in the next hour, is it in a suitable condition and as it should be?
- Report any faults or unsuitable equipment or machinery to his/her employer – Sometimes we don’t realise our equipment or machinery is faulty until it breaks. Whilst a check should be done before using any equipment or machinery, it is also worth thoroughly checking it at the end of a working week. If you come across a problem, you may be able to report it on Friday and have the solution ready when you walk in on Monday morning. If you were to be told you had a workstation inspection in the next hour, is it in a suitable condition and as it should be?
