Traffic Management
Warehouses often form part of much larger premises so health and safety would need to put in place procedures for keeping obstructions clear and maintaining safe routes for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Every workplace should be organised so that pedestrians and vehicles can circulate safely. Workplace traffic routes should be suitable for the people and vehicles using them. Where vehicles and pedestrians use the same traffic route, ideally there should be adequate separation between them. If routes must be close to each other, physical barriers to prevent pedestrians or vehicles straying into each other’s areas should be put in place where this is reasonably practicable.
Epica Health, Safety & Wellbeing can help you achieve separation by keeping pedestrians and vehicles well clear of one another. We will discuss with your team your particular needs for both pedestrians and vehicles and develop a traffic management system bespoke to your premises or site.
This traffic management plan will be a key document that your staff can use as a tool to communicate and ensure that your visitors can be managed while on your premises or site. They should be given clear instructions on site rules, which should include the use of PPE where necessary to ensure their own safety and that of others, in particular the traffic management. Where they can and can’t go, who has right of way, etc.
Epica Health, Safety & Wellbeing will be able to provide your team with relevant checklists to be carried out on your premises itself, the vehicles in use and the workspace around the traffic routes.
Training
The aim is to provide supervisors and employees with fundamental knowledge and understanding required to prevent harm. Training provides employees with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to traffic management. This will help you to protect your staff and business, as well as comply with the law.
Epica provides a range of classroom and e-learning based training.
